STATEMENT OF INTEREST FOR JUDGE
After a career that has spanned almost thirty-six (36) years as a practicing trial attorney, I am asking the Voters of Monroe County, Indiana to elect me Judge.
Throughout my career, I have had the desire to become a Judge. Seeking this position has been a very well-thought decision, which comes with full support from my wife, Angie Lamb.
I have been a practicing attorney, primarily based in Bloomington, Indiana since June 1984. Over that period of time, I have been involved with civil and criminal cases of all types in a multitude of counties, with the majority of my cases in Monroe County, Indiana. In addition to State Court actions, I have practiced before the Federal Courts, primarily bankruptcy law in the Southern District of Indiana. However, I have had the opportunities to practice, on a limited number of cases, civil litigation in the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana.
I have had several appellate cases before the Indiana Court of Appeals. Unfortunately, none that have gone to the Indiana Supreme Court. However, I was invited to argue a criminal case before the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in Orlando, Florida in the late 1990’s.
I have been very involved in the local community through travel youths sports and the church that I attend – Sherwood Oaks Christian Church. From being a competitive travel baseball coach to coaching young Christian athletes with marginal skills, but great hearts.
Over the past nine (9) years, I have been incredibly involved in non-profit competitive Greek collegiate hockey events. I personally have created several non-profit organizations, which have raised over Four Hundred Thousand Dollars ($ 400,000) that has benefited well over ten (10) to fifteen (15) different non-profit organizations around the country.
I have given countless hours of my time and effort to these non-profit events, with no hope, desire or intention of repayment for my time. I have touched in a very positive way hundreds of young collegiate (now graduates) students, both at Indiana University and several colleges around the country.
I am one of the hardest workers you will ever find. I budget my time for family, my work and my non-profit events. I am totally dedicated to my family , wife and children. My wife, Angie, has been very much involved with my non-profit work.
I am married to my best friend and have been with her for the past almost thirty (30) years. Angie is a local Realtor, after spending the first twenty (20) plus years as my paralegal. We are a true team when it comes to family, work and our non-profit events.
Over the past thirty-six (36) years of my law career, I have had over ten thousand (10,000) clients. I have tried bench trials and jury trials and I have won both civil and criminal jury trials. I have been able to obtain reversal on appeals as well as writing one Amicus Curie Brief, while County Attorney back in 1986.
I am very confident that I have more civil and criminal trial experience than any other candidate for the position. Over my career, I have practied in over forty (40) different counties in the State of Indiana, with my most of my cases in the following counties:
- Monroe County – by far the most
- Vigo County
- Marion County
- Greene County
- Brown County
- Lawrence County
- Morgan County
- Johnson County
- Hendricks County
- Hamilton County
- Clay County
- Vermillion County
- Sullivan County
- Knox County
- Parke County
- Bartholomew County
- Any many more both north and south of Bloomington and Indianapolis
Over the sixty-three (63) years of my life, I have had a very full and rounded life. From two (2) marriages to six (6) children and seven (7) grandchildren, I know the ups and downs that a Hoosier family can have. From my days in Terre Haute, Indiana, where I grew up as a very poor kid, to the days as an Attorney here in Bloomington. I know what it is like to have absolutely nothing and wondering where your next meal might come from.
To be a Judge takes someone that can be fair, reasonable and have a well-rounded background. I challenge anyone at my level of practice to have a more well-rounded background than I have. From my Marines Corps days (which literally made me the man that I am), to the grandfather of seven (7) grandchildren, I have seen a tremendous amount things (good and bad) during my life. Further, I have had the chance to experience literally ever possible case – from a murder case to a public intoxication, from child custody case to collection cases – there truly isn’t much, if any, type of cases that I have not tried.
If the citizens of Monroe County would elect me for Judge, the Citizens of Monroe County would have my total and unequivocal dedication to the position of Judge. In addition, while remaining fair and impartial, I would be committed to seek the Judgeship in 2020. I would work incredibly hard to be both “fair and impartial,” to follow the law in arriving at my decisions.
Being a Judge would be the ultimate accomplishment for me or any attorney. It would be the pinnacle of my career.
I would be honored to be the next Judge for the Monroe County Circuit Court in January 2021.
Thanks, Carl Lamb, Attorney at Law for Judge
